1 MLSB Summer Season Week 8, August 10 2013 on Fri Aug 09, 2013 8:34 am

There are only a few weeks to the Summer remaining.  The air begins to grow cooler, but the intensity of the last games makes it a lot thicker.  So much has happened and there is still a lot to be determined.  How it ends up relies heavily on these match ups:

(10 – 0) Pelham Village Wine at (0 – 10) Heavy Hammers
It has all come up roses for the defending champs who again swept their double header last weekend to remain unbeaten.  AJ Romano’s squad showed up huge as old friend Joe Battaglia led the charge with a homerun in the opener.  Steve Chodan got the win while striking out 11 in 7 innings and hit 2 homeruns.  The bottom half starred classic Bill Chodan as he went deep 3 times and drove in 12 runs.  They will head over the bridge into Electric Playground Saturday morning to meet the hard luck Heavy Hammers.  As good as the Wine have had it, the Hammers find themselves on the opposite end.  Last weekend, they again hit hard times as they lost two more games.  Still managing a killer season, Evan Rivels smashed a grand slam in the second game while Todd Alster went deep the opener.  They need to get a solid start that will keep them in both frames long enough to utilize their heavy hitting.  Facing the Wine could be troublesome, but it could also help springboard the Hammers back into the mix.

2 – 8 Pulaskis at (4 – 6) Mamaroneck Gas House Gang
Though the team was promised to be a real contender before the season started, the Pulaskis have been dragging through rough patches throughout the season.  They had a bye last weekend that appeared to give them a chance to get themselves together after not putting a team on the field two weeks ago.  They now try to finish strong and be ready for a playoff run starting in the Bronx this Saturday morning at Pulaski Park against the Gas House Gang.  The boys from Mamaroneck came into last week looking for a boost.  What they got was quite a show as Ross Fomerand lit up the scoreboards with 2 homeruns in the opener and a cycle in the second game that included 3 doubles.  Sean O’Malley was lights out on the rectangle as he fanned 10 in 4 2/3 innings after Scott Almazan went 5 strong for the first game win.  Sean and Scott also went deep, O’Malley in the first game and Almazan in the second.  Chris Schneer capped it with a homer in the second game to give them their second mercy win.  These teams are close in the standings but their play has been rather differentiating.  They both need wins so it will be up to the pitching and the confinement of the big field off the Bruckner.

(7 – 3) Stick’Em Up at (9 – 3) Raging Bulls
The Stick’Em Up received a boost last weekend, launching them in better playoff positioning.  They are now right behind the team they are about to play this weekend: The Raging Bulls.  They will now go up to Albert Leonard Middle School Saturday morning to square off against the Raging Bulls.  As has been the case throughout most of the season, the Bulls won on the strength of their fantastic arms and clutch hitting.  Jim Wendling struck out 18 batters without walking one in his complete game victory while sending number 20 over the fence.  He followed it up with number 21 in the bottom half as Joe Annoscia went deep and threw 5 shutout innings while striking out 14.  Dave Luongo and Artie Von Wiegand both went long as well in a team offensive effort.  Two games separate these two teams in the standings.  They both can improve their spot overall with a great showing this weekend.

Bulls take two from Shut Em Down/Stick Em Up

Wendling hits two bombs in game 1 and outduels D'Amico 7-2.  Game was close, 3-2 in the 7th, before Jim hits his second bomb of the day.

Game two Anoscia was as filthly as I've ever seen him  I think he allowed a hit in the first inning and did not allow another one all game.  He had wiffle ball stuff today.
